Freedom in Texas

When the Battle Is the Lord’s:

Worship, Prayer, and the Fight for Freedom

What do you do when an issue feels too big to face?

When the weight of injustice presses on your heart so heavily that you’re not sure you can look at it — let alone respond?

For many of us, the issue of human trafficking feels exactly like that.

In this week’s episode of the Freedom Challenge Online Podcast, Ruth Payton Willett, Peer Coordinator for Freedom Challenge, invites us into a different way of engaging the fight against trafficking — not with fear or striving, but with worship, prayer, and trust in the God who fights for His people.

“We Do Not Know What to Do, But Our Eyes Are on You”

Ruth opens the episode by reading 2 Chronicles 20, the story of King Jehoshaphat facing an overwhelming enemy. Surrounded, outnumbered, and unsure of the next step, the people of Judah prayed one simple, honest prayer:

“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”

Rather than sending warriors first, God instructed them to send worshipers. And as they praised the Lord, He fought the battle for them.

This passage was the first Scripture God led Ruth to when He invited her to pray about human trafficking — a reminder that while the battle is real, it ultimately belongs to Him.

Gaze on God, Glance at the Battle

As women across Texas prepare to walk, pray, and raise awareness through Freedom Challenge, this episode calls us to a posture that feels both countercultural and deeply biblical:

  • Gaze on God

  • Glance at the battle

We are not asked to ignore injustice. We are asked to face it with our eyes fixed on Him, trusting that He holds all power and might in His hands.

Praying for Texas

Ruth leads listeners in prayer for the state of Texas — currently one of the most affected states by human trafficking — asking God to bring peace on every side and to turn the tide of injustice.

She also shares prayer points from the Texas Governor’s Week of Prayer to End Human Trafficking, including prayers for:

  • Victims to find safety and healing

  • Communities to recognize the signs of trafficking

  • Justice systems to act with wisdom and compassion

  • Hearts and minds to be transformed

Even the hardest prayer is named: praying for the hearts of traffickers to be turned from darkness to light, from exploitation to protection.

Worship as Warfare

This episode reminds us that worship is not passive. It is powerful.

When we lift our eyes, surrender our fear, and praise God in the midst of brokenness, we join Him in the work of justice — not striving in our own strength, but partnering with the One who saves.

Take Your Step

God may fight the battle, but He still invites us to step forward.

That step might look like:

  • Praying

  • Hiking

  • Giving

  • Learning

  • Speaking up

No step is too small when it is taken in obedience.

As Ruth reminds us, God is still the same God who saved before — and He will save again.

Let us continue to do good, do more, and do it together — trusting that no darkness is greater than His name.
