Give Generously
FREEDOM to Give: Generosity That Transforms Lives
Stepping Into Generosity—Together
At Freedom Challenge, we believe in the power of women linking arms to disrupt cycles of oppression and poverty. But for many, the idea of fundraising or giving generously can feel intimidating or even out of reach. In our latest podcast episode, we sat down with generosity specialist Kim Moeller to talk about what it really means to live generously—and how every woman can take practical steps toward a life of impact.
Meet Kim Moeller
Kim Moeller is passionate advocate for women living out their calling through giving. Kim brings decades of experience in Christian philanthropy, impact investing, and financial stewardship. She’s the host of the “Generous Girl” podcast, represents the National Christian Foundation in San Diego, and is deeply involved in empowering women to steward their resources for maximum Kingdom impact. Kim’s wisdom, warmth, and practical insights have inspired countless women to step boldly into generosity, and I’m thrilled to share her expertise with our Freedom Challenge community.
From Support Raising to Stewardship
Kim’s journey began at UCLA, where she felt called to the corporate world but found herself raising support for ministry. She quickly learned that generosity isn’t about the size of your network or your bank account—it’s about trusting God to provide and stewarding what you have, whether it’s a little or a lot.
“The dollars were not because of my effort. They were all from God. I’m a steward—I didn’t own any of those dollars.”
Kim’s story reminds us that generosity starts with a posture of surrender, not ownership. It’s about being faithful with what’s in our hands and inviting God into every financial decision.
Why Women and Wealth Matter
We live in a unique moment in history—a time when trillions of dollars are being transferred to women. Kim is passionate about equipping women to be educated, empowered, and equipped to live their most generous lives. Whether you’re single, married, financially savvy, or just starting out, every woman is called to steward her resources well.
Kim encourages us to:
Track our finances honestly (“If you don’t measure the numbers, you won’t know what’s happening.”)
Prepare for the unexpected (wills, trusts, beneficiaries)
Engage in financial conversations, even if they feel uncomfortable
Practical Tools for Generosity
Kim shared several practical ways to step into generosity:
Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs): Think of these as charitable checking accounts. They allow you to set aside money for giving, take your time deciding where to give, and even involve your family in the process. Kim recommends starting with a small percentage and growing your giving over time.
Impact Investing: Through organizations like the Impact Foundation, you can invest charitable capital in for-profit ventures that align with your values—like companies employing the deaf in Rwanda or creating Christian media for kids.
Giving Circles: Joining groups like Seeds San Diego or the Freedom Circle allows you to pool resources with other women, making a bigger impact together than you could alone.
Raising Generous Generations
Kim and I also discussed how to teach generosity to our children and grandchildren. Simple practices—like the 10-10-80 rule (give 10%, save 10%, live on 80%), sponsoring children through organizations like Compassion, or even letting kids choose gifts for others instead of themselves—can shape hearts for a lifetime.
“Sometimes the most transformative lessons come not from what we say, but from what our children see and experience.”
Living with Open Hands
Generosity isn’t just about money. It’s about time, talents, and influence. It’s about saying “yes” to God’s invitations, even when they stretch us beyond our comfort zones. As Kim reminded us, “You can’t out-give God.” When we step out in faith, we discover the FREEDOM to give—and to see lives transformed, including our own.
