A Mother's Fight

A Hope Rising From the Ashes

Imagine a mother having to send her children to bed hungry because of a lack of help. Her family barely gets by living off the occasional bread and tea she manages to scrounge up. This is the precarious situation Raya, now 44 years old, found herself in when she was a young mother of three small children.

Her husband was a heavy drinker, and they had no money. It’s why they went some days with no food and even water. Raya sought help from neighbors and in shops, but both turned her away. The best she could do was take her children to the fields to pick vegetables in exchange for food.

Desperate for work, she traveled to a bigger city. A woman there showed her kindness. She fed her, brought her clothes, and helped restore her teeth. Later, Raya discovered this woman was a pimp. She drove Raya into prostitution. She worked up to ten clients a day, sending money home so her children could be fed properly.

Although she could provide for her children, Raya missed them dearly, but when she returned home, her mother-in-law restricted her food and humiliated her. It forced Raya to leave and return to prostitution. Her attempts to reunite with her children from time to time led to Raya receiving beatings from family members. Even then, she continued to work to pay the rent for her children.

Around the same time, she lived with a man who abused her, took her money, and drove her to cope with her situation through alcohol. Later, he showed inappropriate interest in her daughter. When she found out, she immediately ended the relationship.

It’s now been 6–7 months since she left him. Raya seeks to fight against her alcohol addiction and is looking to work honestly. Still, she finds herself at times returning to prostitution to survive and simply making ends meet. She is not alone. Our team in Central Asia is walking alongside her and building trust with her children. She knows about God, and we pray together, believing He will one day fully restore her life and renew her hope.

One way you can partner with us to bring restoration to the lives of women like Raya is by donating to our cause and helping fund the projects that make this vision possible.
