🕊️ Freedom in Worship: Glancing at Darkness, Gazing at God

By Ruth Willett | Freedom Challenge USA

In a world where over 50 million people are enslaved, the weight of human trafficking can feel overwhelming. But what if the path to justice begins not with striving, but with worship?

In this post, adapted from the podcast episode Freedom in Worship: Glancing at Darkness, Gazing at God, Ruth Willett shares a powerful invitation: to become a people who fight darkness not by staring into it—but by glancing at it and gazing at God.

🔥 Why Worship Matters in the Fight for Freedom

When God called Ruth to pray about human trafficking, her first response was, “No, thank you.” The issue felt too dark, too heavy. But God responded with a strategy rooted in 2 Chronicles 20—a call to worship first and let Him fight the battle.

“If you worship, I will fight.” —God’s whisper to Ruth

Worship isn’t a passive act. It’s a weapon of warfare, a declaration that God is greater than the darkness. When we lift our eyes to Him, we’re not ignoring the pain—we’re placing it in the only hands that can truly bring freedom.

🙏 A Strategy for Prayer and Intercession

This episode offers a practical, Spirit-led rhythm for engaging with the issue of human trafficking:

  • Glance at the issue: Learn the facts. Understand the scale. Let your heart be moved.

  • Gaze at God: Worship. Remember His names. Declare His power and promises.

  • Pray with purpose: Ask for justice, healing, and transformation—for the enslaved and even for the traffickers.

  • Take a step: Research a local statistic. Share the podcast. Invite others to pray.

“We don’t hide from the hard issues—we put them in the right hands.”
